About...
Born and brought up in London, I have travelled widely and lived in several countries, including Greece, India, the state of California in the US and several years in the Languedoc region of southern France. I earned my living mainly as a truck driver before becoming a freelance journalist and travel writer. After many years back in NW London, I now live in the New Forest, on England's south coast.
In the community...
Writing community
I set up Travelwriters UK, a membership website to help professional travel journalists find work, and ran it for 17 years. On moving to the New Forest I started New Forest Authors, an informal group for local members of the Society of Authors.
Local community
With other neighbours I founded an active NW London residents' association and remained its chairman for 12 years until 2013.
Jewish community
For 5 years I was the editor of Masorti Matters, quarterly magazine of the UK Masorti movement, worked as press officer for the Assembly of Masorti Synagogues and sat on Masorti Council. I served as a member of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
I created a Masorti memorial service for those who have ever lost a new baby. Lockdowns aside, the service is held from time to time at New North London Synagogue.
After leaving London, I was for two years volunteer editor of Wessex Jewish News, principal magazine of the Jewish community in the Bournemouth area.
